Autumn Members’ Pulse on routes to work, uncertainty and the joys of it all

Our Members’ Pulse survey of over 18,000 respondents reveals interesting insights into our members’ expectations for the future, finding jobs and the threat of unemployment. Once again, we received a huge number of responses, thanks to everyone!

Winter tyres and shopping trips bring different income levels together

In the Members’ Pulse, we asked members what they were planning to buy next for more than 100 €. Among our members’ top upcoming purchases over 100 €, the most popular were car, clothing and pet-related purchases such as winter tyres, pet food and a new winter coat.

The responses show significant differences by income level. Most low-income earners focus on essential purchases, while many high-income earners plan to buy a home, make investments and make other major investments. On the other hand, winter tires, a winter coat and groceries were mentioned across all income groups, meaning they unite our members regardless of wallet thickness. The time of year helps to explain the similarity of responses.

Networks play an important role in job search

Almost a third (29%) of participants said they found their job through networks. The importance of hidden jobs in job search continues to grow, with as many as 68% of the jobs found being hidden jobs.

These responses confirm the perception that networks play a key role in job search and working life. In Finnish working life, relationships and social capital are of great importance, as our members’ experience proves.

Uncertainty about job continuity has increased

Concerns about unemployment are particularly evident among those who are laid off, 78% of whom feel insecure about their employment. Low and middle-income respondents are more concerned about rising unemployment in their sector than high-income respondents. The threat of unemployment is particularly high in construction and culture, marketing and communication, while the situation is more stable in banking and insurance.
