“For the unemployed or anyone else, the opportunities for training are a win-win situation. It would also be good to make it easier for the unemployed to study. There is no harm to anyone, if an unemployed studies at home”, says Juha Kuki, member of the YTK.

He has a degree in graphic design and has worked in the printing industry for just under 20 years. During his career he has produced a wide range of printed products, from business cards to sophisticated medical  electrodes. Less than a year ago he was made redundant in the context of restructuring negotiations.

A cybersecurity expert

During his unemployment, Juha Kuki studied diligently. He completed a study path in cybersecurity offered by Microsoft and partners. The study path is open and free of charge to everyone.

“The IT sector has always interested me, I enjoy spending time with computers. I wanted to deepen my knowledge and maybe even get a new career through the education.”

Juha Kuki found out about the training through a YTK-member letter. He was immidiately interested in the training.

“I started by checking with the labour authority that I could successfully complete the study path. When I got the green light, I begun studying.”

Juha Kuki recommends the training to anyone interested in the subject.

“Cybercrime is on the rise, but the public debate doesn’t give you much understanding of what happens in practice in these situations. The training gave me a deeper insight into how to prevent cybercrime, for example, or how to repair damage. These skills are useful for everyone in today’s world.”

Juha Kuki also took an interest in the Power Platform –study path from Microsoft and partners. He was only able to start his studies recently, as he did not immediately receive confirmation from the labour authorities as to whether his studies would have an impact on his income support. Kuki was annoyed by the situation.

“It’s hard to see why we should want to put the brakes on people’s will to develop, progress in life and find employment. Especially if you want to move from a highly competitive sector with limited job opportunities to a sector where people are needed.”

Successful job search

Alongside his training, Juha Kuki has been looking for work with good results: at the beginning of February he started a new job in his field of printing machinery as a technical specialist.

“I had already applied for a job at the company in question, but that time there was no suitable position open for me. However, my name and CV had stuck in my mind and when a suitable position opened up, I was contacted.”

In addition to his long experience, his own proactivity and training helped him to find a job.

“When I was recruited, I was asked what I had done during my unemployment. The new employer was very positive about the fact that I had developed my skills. The training offered by Microsoft and partners can help you acquire skills that anyone will need in the future.”

A satisfied member of the YTK

Juha Kuki has been a member of the YTK Unemployment Fund for just under ten years. Membership has brought security to his working life and everyday life.

“Of course I have received financial help, but also a lot of information. Everything has always gone well with the YTK, even though, for example, there have sometimes been delays in processing daily allowance applications. I have received advice and help when I have needed it.”
